Marimekko’s sturdy “Pirput Parput” canvas place mats are smashing in both color and design but also are practical. They are reversible, with the white and black striped pattern “Varvunraita” on the other side. A real bonus – your table’s look can change in an instant. Design: Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi, who joined Marimekko in 1953. She and her team developed a totally new look in fabric printing – she was a ceramist by training – with use of overlapping colors. Marimekko’s “Stilla” place mats are great additions to your table. The over-sized, stylized maroon leaves on a vivid carmine red background, filled with fine, traversing lines are nevertheless a close image of leaves in nature. “Stilla” is a good example of clean, contemporary design at its best. Design: Björn Dahlström, 2007, one of Scandinavia’s most successful designers. He focused earlier in his career on graphic design but today mainly concentrates on industrial design. He makes a return to the world of two-dimensional graphic design in his finely crafted fabric patterns. Very attractive!
